I Am A Candle

Recommend

I am a candle,
Which you hold in your palm;
Modestly, yet firmly,
Curiously observing my flame,

Watching me burn away softly,
Watching the wick sway to and fro,
Watching the wax trickle down,
Your finger caresses me softly,
Your nail brushes along,
Carelessly peeling away at me,
Your lip is bit with anticipation,
And there is more than one fire
Burning away in here,
And your eyes drift,
And you sigh dreamily,

But then your malevolent playing
Takes its toll,
As I melt away,
Helplessly, uncontrollably,
And my flame shudders
With the spark of life,
This candle's poor heart
Is snapped asunder,

And because of you,
My dear,
My flame dies away
