The look in her eyes, it showed her fear
But I sat locked away
The girl she watched as I sat in tears
But at least I was safe that day
She knew those things that I had known
But I sat locked away
She writhed as they threw her where I was thrown
But at least I was safe that day
She showed the mark left on her wrist
But I sat locked away
The men came close, she clenched her fist
But at least I was safe that day
The men shot guns and her face turned white
But I sat locked away
They grabbed her arms too tired to fight
But at least I was safe that day
The girl she looked into my eyes
But I sat locked away
She wanted to apologise
But at least I was safe that day
The girl mouthed ‘son’ and then broke down
But I sat locked away
I knew I couldn’t make a sound
For I was safe that day
I heard the shot I heard the cry
But I sat locked away
The men, they left to let her die
Why was I saved that day?
