Thoughts of a Broken Brain: Newton's Cradlemature
The wall clock that ticks. The vintage books on the shelves. The mahogany desk.
Everything strategically placed.
The leather seats. The humming air-con. The decanter of water. The chaotic oil painting of battling titans.
My favorite of course, Newton's Cradle.
The little desk charm with identical metal spheres suspended within it's metal frame. Touching ever so slightly. The five spheres are suspended by metal strings of equal length. The cradle is also known as the executive clicker. Probably a fad picked up by corporate %#@@@%&s to help portray their wooden image of sophistication, missing the scientifical genius it illustrates.
Admiration in simplicity. Watching closely as you pull back the ball on one end, letting it drop. Leaving the spheres in the middle dead still. Only before the last one swings up with the sound of a click. Beautiful sorcery in motion.
The first, upon impact, sends a shock wave through the middle objects, leaving them to appear completely useless to the naked eye. The majority of initial energy then explodes into the last, sending it straight up, in an arch of almost equal height, before it returns back again and returns the favor. And so starting a "Back & Forth"
And that...
Is exactly what happens here. Here in this meticulously staged setup.
Even the way he scuffles around, making me wait on his expensive sofa. The clicking of lozenges against his teeth. The intellectual intimidation. The aimless conversations.
All of which is conducting shock waves through the inconsequential, until eventually something lifts and swings back creating the Back & Forth. And that is the name of the game.
The trick is however, to allow the Back & Forth to happen in this case. But not returning the energy out of reaction, but taking it, knowing the reaction it needs and returning it as your own disguised wave. Letting the sender feel comfortable and in control as the initiator.
"So how are we feeling today?"
..........
"Like an opening band for the Sun!"
..........
"I see"
And so the ballet begins
